Globe Broadband Limits P2P Speed to 20kbps!

Thousands of Globe subscribers are experiencing significant problems downloading from peer-to-peer networks including bit torrent. I am also a subscriber of Globe Broadband and from my normal D/L speed of 110kBps, I now only get around 15kBps.

From forums around the net, I read that plan 1Mbps is throttled at 20kBps, and plan 2Mbps, is at 40kBps (they use an advanced traffic-shaping hardware to do this). Others speculate that Globe will apply throttling if you reach your download cap -- 20GB a month.

Nobody from Globe has confirmed nor denied this crappy new system that they are implementing, so I hope this is only temporary. If this turns out to be a permanent BS, I'll surely look for a better ISP the soonest.

Please hit the comment button and share your story.

UPDATE: This is a scan of the contract of new subscribers. Looks like this will be permanent :(

UPDATE 2: Good news people! We can now bypass Globe's BS by using this as BT client. Enjoy! LINK

UPDATE 3: Still no word from Globe. And bad news, Thunder doesn't always work on all torrents. Tried using it using public trackers like TPB or TorrentBox, download doesn't even start. I'll experiment some more.

Yes, Thunder is quite erratic. :( Do you guys have news from Globe yet?

If this won't change after a week. I will definitely leave them. Been a subscriber for 1 year and 6 months and the contract that I signed before doesn't have that in the fine print. It's a breach of contract on my part.

what the fuck?!!! akala ko, ako lang ang may problema na ganito. may torrent throttle na rin ang globe. bakit pa ako magbabayad ng 1mpbs kung di lang ako magp2p.

i'm also experiencing the same problem, used to get 100kbps average download speed for my torrent and just this week it went down to 20kbps, i thought something got in to my computer so i reformatted my HD but it did not change the speed.if this will not be resolve after this week, i will disconnect my service.

I too also experienced this slowdown. From 100kbps to 20kbps.

It's goodbye, globe broadband, then.

so any ideas on a better ISP than globe?

there's, PLDT, SMART, SUN, Destiny Cable, Cable link..

used SMARTBro before and it was crap, also used PLDT DSL on the costomer's PC i'm servicing and i think it's no better than globe in term of speed.

WAHAHA mauubos subscriber ng globe
ok sana to kung may anime channel dito na up to date ang titles at dapat subs hindi dub. I'll support this pag may ganun at saka may support sa anime merchandise yung originals.

Lol, just port forward 80, and make it as your port in ur torrent software.

Oo nga, mabagal talaga yung Globe Broadband. Unlimited daw pero may 15 g limit din. Any ideas of how to speed up downloads?

They installed a new Aztech modem but now we have weird hiccups - like it goes on then off every few seconds whereas before it was slow but the data transfer was constant.

@ Darren Calleja

tol, any improvement?mag-aaply na kaC sana kami this week.smart bro ako kya lng d ako nasatisfy kya ngaUn na my globe na sa amin, lipat sana ako..pro if hindi parin ok, at wlang alternative, hindi nlng ako lilipat..huhuhu.

Darren Barretto Calleja said...

I suggest don't do it. It is stated in their contract that they can throttle P2P bandwidth without your consent. If you're into P2P, stay away from Globe and Sun Broadband.
